CRISPR genome editing is one of the most revolutionary discoveries of recent decades. Today, the technology is used in almost all bioscientific laboratories of basic research, the field of application ranges from agriculture, industrial production of bioreagents to personalized medicine. The possibilities of the method are summarized in a current documentary film, which will be exclusively presented in the Saarland by the Saarland University on November 29, 2019 at 7 pm (Campus Homburg, Building 41, IMED, Lecture hall 1). The film will be followed by a panel discussion with students and scientists from the Saarland University: Prof. Wolfram Henn (Institute of Human Genetics and member of the German Ethics Council), Jun.-Prof. Bianca Schrul (Preclinical Center for Molecular Signal Processing and member of the COMM), Ursela Barteczko (Biotechnology student and Asta member), Alexander Bernhard (Human Medicine student), Prof. Frank Kirchhoff (Center for Integrative Physiology and Molecular Medicine and member of the COMM). Die CRISPR-Genomeditierung ist eine der revolutionärsten Entdeckungen der letzten Jahrzehnte. Die Technik wird heute in nahezu allen biowissenschaftlichen Laboren der Grundlagenforschung eingesetzt, das Feld der Anwendung reicht dabei von der Landwirtschaft, industrieller Produktion von Bioreagenzien bis hin zu personalisierter Medizin. Die Möglichkeiten der Genom-Editierung (Gen-Schere) werden in einem aktuellen Dokumentarfilm dargestellt, der im Saarland exklusiv nur durch die Universität des Saarlandes präsentiert wird (29. November 2019, 19 Uhr, Campus Homburg, Gebäude 41, IMED, Hörsaal 1). Im Anschluss an den Film findet eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Studierenden und Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern zur Zukunft der Technologie statt: Professor Wolfram Henn (Institut für Humangenetik und Mitglied im Deutschen Ethikrat), Juniorprofessorin Bianca Schrul (Präklinisches Zentrum für Molekulare Signalverarbeitung und COMM-Mitglied), Ursela Barteczko (Studentin der Biotechnologie und Asta-Mitglied), Alexander Bernhard (Student der Human-Medizin), Professor Frank Kirchhoff (Centrum für Integrative Physiologie und Molekulare Medizin und COMM-Mitglied).
