Cellular processes are so complex and the structures are so tiny, that it is extremely difficult to track down their rules. Researchers of the Research Unit 2848 (FOR 2848; https://for2848.de/), in which Professor Martin van der Laan from Saarland University is involved, aim to get deeper insights into these processes in certain cell components, namely the mitochondria. The German Research Foundation (DFG) will now continue to fund the Research Untit 2848 for the next three years (2023-2025). The new subproject of Martin van der Laan and Dr. Heike Rampelt (University of Freiburg) will receive about half a million euros for their research on the so-called cristae compartments. Zelluläre Prozesse sind so komplex und gleichzeitig sind die Strukturen so winzig, dass es äußerst schwierig ist, ihre Regeln aufzuspüren. Forscherinnen und Forscher der Forschergruppe 2848 (FOR 2848; https://for2848.de/), an der Professor Martin van der Laan von der Universität des Saarlandes beteiligt ist, wollen diese Vorgänge in bestimmten Zellbestandteilen, nämlich den Mitochondrien, besser verstehen. Die DFG wird die Forschergruppe für die nächsten drei Jahre (2023-2025) weiter fördern. Das neue Teilprojekt von Martin van der Laan und Dr. Heike Rampelt (Universität Freiburg) erhält rund eine halbe Million Euro für die Erforschung der so genannten Cristae-Kompartimente.
