Until now, scientists around the world have assumed that the immune system of patients who had a severe course after infection with the coronavirus reacted weaker to the infection. However, it is exactly the opposite, as a team led by Professor Martina Sester has now discovered. A severe course is an indication of a strong immune response. The study was published in advance on a so-called preprint server.

Bisher sind Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler weltweit davon ausgegangen, dass das Immunsystem von Patienten, die einen schweren Verlauf nach einer Infektion mit dem Coronavirus hatten, schwächer auf die Infektion reagierte. Es ist aber genau umgekehrt, wie ein Team um Professorin Martina Sester nun herausgefunden hat. Ein schwerer Verlauf ist ein Indiz für eine starke Immunantwort. Die Studie ist vorab auf einem so genannten Preprint-Server erschienen.
