As a reward for the good results at the International Biology Olympiad 2019 (IBO), the 6 best Saarland pupils were invited to take part in a practical course in Molecular Biology on March 11, 2019 at the Competence Center Molecular Medicine (COMM) in Homburg. In addition to the extraction of DNA from fruits, the students amplified the TLOC1/SEC62 gene from a cDNA sample of prostate cancer tumour cells using PCR. Afterwards, they cut out the same gene from a vector using two different restriction enzymes. The cDNA was then compared with the PCR product in an agarose gel to confirm the correctness of the plasmid. Since 2013, the COMM has regularly supported the Saarland participants of the IBO with preparation and reward practical courses.
Als Belohnung für das gute Abschneiden bei der Internationalen Biologie-Olympiade 2019 (IBO) durften die 6 besten saarländischen Schülerinnen und Schüler am 11.03.2019 im Kompetenzzentrum Molekulare Medizin (COMM) auf dem Campus in Homburg an einem molekularbiologischen Praktikum teilnehmen. Dabei konnten die Schülerinnen und Schüler neben einer DNA-Extraktion aus Früchten mittels PCR das Gen TLOC1/SEC62 aus einer cDNA-Probe von Tumorzellen amplifizieren und mit Hilfe von Restriktionsenzymen das gleiche Gen aus einem Vektor ausschneiden. Anschließend wurde die cDNA mit dem PCR-Produkt in einem Agarosegel verglichen, um die Korrektheit des Plasmids zu bestätigen. Das COMM unterstützt die saarländichen Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der IBO seit 2013 regelmäßig mit Vorbereitungs- und Belohunungspraktika.
