On April 7, the state government’s expert group on “Infection Control” discussed research programmes to cope with the corona pandemic. A study to examine patients with coronavirus infection in Saarland (Corsaar) and a research project to validate corona test systems were launched.
How can the care of patients with COVID-19 be improved? How can new diagnostic or therapeutic approaches be identified as quickly as possible? Experts from several scientific institutes in Saarland are seeking answers to these questions in the Corsaar study. To this end, they will collect and evaluate data and blood samples from as many affected patients as possible. The aim is to better predict the course of the disease, to identify high-risk patients at an early stage and to develop new therapeutic methods using molecular analyses. The State Chancellery is funding this research project with a total of 280,000 euros, Saarland University with 250,000 euros and the Rolf Schwiete Foundation with another 250,000 euros.

Der Expertenkreis “Infektionsschutz” der Landesregierung hat am 7. April über Forschungsprogramme zur Bewältigung der Corona-Pandemie beraten. Auf den Weg gebracht wurden eine Studie zur Untersuchung von Patientinnen und Patienten mit der Coronavirus-Infektion im Saarland (Corsaar) sowie ein Forschungsvorhaben zur Validierung von Corona-Testsystemen.
Wie kann die Versorgung von Patienten mit COVID-19 verbessert werden? Wie können möglichst rasch neue Diagnose- oder Therapieansätze identifiziert werden? Antworten darauf suchen Expertinnen und Experten von mehreren wissenschaftlichen Instituten im Saarland im Rahmen der Corsaar-Studie. Hierzu werden sie Daten und Blutproben von möglichst vielen Betroffenen sammeln und auswerten. Ziel ist es dabei, den Erkrankungsverlauf besser vorherzusagen, Risikopatienten frühzeitig zu identifizieren und über molekulare Analysen neue Therapieverfahren zu entwickeln. Die Staatskanzlei fördert dieses Forschungsvorhaben mit insgesamt 280.000 Euro, die Universität des Saarlandes mit 250.000 Euro sowie die Rolf-Schwiete-Stiftung mit ebenfalls 250.000 Euro.
