In multiple sclerosis, the immune system attacks the bodies own nerve tissue and nerve cells die. Within the DFG Research Group FOR 2289, an interdisciplinary team of scientists from Homburg, Heidelberg and Hamburg-Eppendorf investigates whether a disturbed calcium balance of the cells is involved in the development of this chronic disease. The German Research Foundation (DFG) will support this important research with 2.7 million euros for another three years. Bei der Multiplen Sklerose greift das Immunsystem das körpereigene Nervengewebe an und Nervenzellen sterben ab. In der DFG-Forschungsgruppe FOR 2289 untersucht ein interdisziplinäres Team von Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus Homburg, Heidelberg und Hamburg-Eppendorf, ob an der Entstehung dieser chronischen Krankheit ein gestörter Kalziumhaushalt der Zellen beteiligt ist. Die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) wird diese wichtige Forschung mit 2,7 Millionen Euro für weitere drei Jahre unterstützen.
